Sand Hollow is my family’s favorite swimming hole in the area. The water is clear and cool, there are rocks to jump off of (for the very daring there are cliffs up to 30 feet tall to test one’s courage), an island to swim out to, great boating, fishing, an nice sandy beach and picnic benches. Away from the lake, the huge sand dunes to the south are a very popular off-road vehicle playground. In spring and summer there is no better place to go swimming. Now, the one drawback: Swimmer’s Itch, an irritating but essentially harmless parasite, seems to be prevalent at certain spots in the lake, but my family and I have never gotten it and I don’t know anyone else who has. All the same, consider yourself warned, but don’t let it dissuade you: Sand Hollow is an awesome spot, one that we have enjoyed immensely and will continue to do so for years to come.
